Startup sounds
A single click can be normal. Repeated clicking, delayed ignition, a hard electrical hum, or a loud bang at startup can point to control, ignition, or motor trouble.
Running sounds
Rattling can come from a loose panel or blower part. Screeching may involve a belt or bearing. Bubbling may involve condensate drainage. Each requires a different inspection.
Turn it off for unsafe symptoms
Stop the system for smoke, burning odor, exposed wiring, severe vibration, metallic grinding, or a gas smell. Keep the area clear and call for appropriate help.
Record the conditions
Note whether the sound happens at startup, shutdown, during cooling, during heating, or only when the blower runs. Record from a safe distance without opening panels.
Do not let a quiet day mislead you
Intermittent sounds can disappear before the appointment. A recording, the time of day, and the operating mode can help the technician reproduce the problem.
